Slide Snow and Avalanche School was organized to meet the need of a growing number of skiers, snowmobilers, snowboarders, snowshoers, ski patrollers, forecasters, ice climbers, mountaineers and general snow enthusiasts that seek to increase their knowledge about avalanche awareness and rescue.
Slide Snow and Avalanche School teaches the most current American Institute for Avalanche Research and Education’s proven, unified curriculum. AIARE provides a unified approach that builds logically on itself from a 1 hour avalanche awareness presentation to a 78 hour Level 3 advanced course.
Slide Snow and Avalanche School is focused solely on avalanche education. Our goal is to arm students with the knowledge to make informed decisions in the backcountry.
Our 8,200’ base elevation and location on the eastern edge of the Sierra bless us with a highly variable snowpack. In addition to the infamous “sierra cement” and the occasional rain event, we also receive a fair share of lighter, drier snow associated with transitional or intermountain climates. As a student, this means you will be exposed to a more interesting snowpack. Your instructors will guide you through a fascinating exploration of the ever-changing snowpack, the processes that drive those changes, and how to incorporate that understanding into sound decision-making.
